So I keep hearing a "hooo hooo" sound in the morning. I hear that when I am in Blue Bell often, and I have seen an owl in my yard in Blue Bell. So when I hear the same sound here, in NE Philly, I say "That annoying owl.." but my boyfriend insists "Uh, there are no owls in NE Philly."
But there definitely are 17.34 miles away, in Blue Bell.
Someone prove him wrong, tell me there are definitely owls in NE Philly!

In case your boyfriend hasn't looked around, NE Philly sits on the edge of nothing. There are owls in that part of the city due to its suburban nature.

I think you may be hearing mourning doves, though. They make a gentle hoo hoo noise, especially in the morning. Does it sound at all like this: http://www.learnbirdsongs.com/birdsong.php?id=7

Hmm. Maybe a trip to the zoo to speak to the person who works with the birds might help? Contact local birdwatching groups or hit the library. There are books like "Birds of Pennsylvania".

Still, I'd bet there could be owls where you live. They're usually sleeping by the time you wake up, though.

Holy crap. What I've been hearing sounds a lot like the "hoo"s on that link, just it doesn't go hooAHooh like the very first sound you hear. I guess I was wrong :(
